My name is David Ravvin. I usually go by Dave. I’ve been a counsellor for almost 25 years. I’ve been married to my wife for over 25 years, together for over 30. We have two great kids (boy/girl twins, all grown up). I like to hang out with my childhood friends, read and listen to podcasts about philosophy, politics, culture, religion and psychology, and watch movies with my wife and kids (when they’re around). When I was young I was a good athlete. Now, I keep fit by working with a personal trainer and by walking. I love being able to help people as a therapist. In order to stay on top of my work, I attend a monthly peer consult group and regularly attend trainings.

As a therapist my job is to work with your better self. Whatever your issue, I assume you have many internal resources but that these resources are not being fully utilized. I provide a safe space for you to talk about what you’re going through to help you positively shift the way you feel about yourself and the world. I will help you set realistic goals to help you make practical changes to your thinking and behaviour. I’ll also show you body-based practices to help you regulate your nervous system and manage your thinking. I also like to help clients understand what they’re going through by discussing their childhood experience.

My main modalities are EMDR, IFS (Internal Family Systems) and CBT. I am a Certified EMDR Therapist. I find that clients move in and out of calm and disturbed states. With these three modalities, I help clients identify these states and better manage the disturbed ones. With EMDR, the goal is to diminish the states themselves. So there is more mental space to be loving and rational.

My approach is professional and friendly, with a sense of humour. I make every effort to adjust respectfully to your way of being. I’m interested in how your psyche works and hope you’ll accept constructive feedback. Give me a call or send an email and I’ll answer any questions and explain how I think I can be of help to you. I offer a free 15 minute consult
